Spring Up

Spring Up, 8 x 10”, oil on linen panel

Understandably different.

I’ve decided to push the boundaries of abstraction even further. As I delved deeper into detail and texture, I recognized the need to infuse a fresh perspective into my usual paintings. It became increasingly obvious that many of my colleagues and fellow artists painting the desert southwest were merely replicating photos from their iPads—either through meticulous sketches (!) or projections onto canvas. To me, this was just a reproduction. I refuse to follow that trend. I want to evoke a different feeling, a unique emotion that goes beyond what is captured in photographs. We already have an abundance of those cluttering our iPhones, hard drives, and socials. I am committed to creating something original on my canvases.
