John Gould on Climb-it-Change
It's funny how when you are hanging at the base of the cliff, week upon week, belaying your partner on his "impossible (undone) project," at a climbing area that really does NOT turn you on in the slightest, you ultimately begin to DISLIKE this area and not want to go back. Sad to say, that this area, Lower Solitude was one of those areas.
I belayed my ex Matt when he top-roped, bolted it, and created the project, the direct version of the route pictured here. Now I am taking pictures of it....
I loathed it. I loathed it then. I sorta still loathe it now, but less so.
Zak, John and ABZ invited me to climb up there one early morning... For downtown cragging it's pretty spectacular (gasp), I can drive to the trailhead in :10 minutes (double gasp). Granite-like climbing on ridiculously hard (cryptic?) routes that keeps you grumbling to yourself till you reach the chains.
I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the sandbag. I like that sort of thing. Expect the unexpected, I did here. Last thing I expected was the want to go back... and I did... and I still do... and I will again.
